A body found on a beach is that of missing Dan Nicholls, who was swept out to sea off Brighton after taking part in a dare, police have confirmed.
A member of the public discovered his body at 8.10am at Rottingdean, roughly three miles from Brighton's Palace Pier.
Mr Nicholls, 23, was with four of his friends when he was knocked off his feet by a wave in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police have said the incident happened after he was dared to stand at the water's edge.
Mr Nicholls got into difficulty after being knocked off his feet in "dangerous" gale force nine conditions by a wave, police said.
A second man, Freddie Reynolds, 24, is said to have disappeared after he dived in to rescue him.
Mr Reynolds' body was found on Saturday on Saltdean beach.
Detective Chief Inspector Carwyn Hughes said Mr Nicholls' family and friends were extremely relieved that his body had been found.
In a statement released through the police, the family said: "We are immensely grateful to the police and rescue services who have been both professional and supportive in very difficult circumstances.
"We are also grateful for all the expressions of love and support from so many who knew Dan.
"Such a tragedy touches so many lives and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the sad loss of Freddie and Dan."
In a statement, Mr Reynolds' family said his death would leave a "huge void in a lot of people's lives".
Loved ones of the 24-year-old added: "Freddie was always looking out for his friends and family, and people loved to be around him.
"He was incredibly funny and loved a joke and a banter around the dinner table."
Rescuers, including a helicopter and lifeboats, worked through the night to try to find the men in the early hours of 10 January, but gale-force winds and rough seas hampered the search.
Mr Hughes said: "We are relieved that the bodies of the two men have been recovered.
"This has been a traumatic weekend for Dan and Freddie's friends and family.
"What was meant to be a bit of fun turned out so tragically with Dan snatched from the water's edge and Freddie bravely diving in to try to save him.
"Our sympathies go to their families, whom we are supporting."
