Former boxing promoter Frank Maloney - who helped Lennox Lewis become World Heavyweight Champion - has revealed he is living as a woman.
Maloney, once described as a "mental midget" by US promoter Don King, is undergoing a sex change and is now known as Kellie.
She told the Sunday Mirror: "I wasn't born into the right body. I have always known I was a woman. I can't keep living in the shadows."
Maloney guided Lennox Lewis to his World Heavyweight Championship The 61-year-old, who announced she was ending her 30-year career in the sport in October, told the newspaper of her struggle to keep her secret in such a macho environment.
And she described how difficult it had been to tell her second wife in 2012, ending 15 years of marriage.
Maloney, who has three children, said: "What was wrong at birth is now medically corrected. I have a female brain.
"I knew I was different from the minute I could compare myself to other children. I wasn't in the right body. I was jealous of girls."
With Lewis In 1992 She said the transformation had taken place over two years and she had undergone the hormone therapy, hair removal and counselling needed ahead of corrective surgery.
Maloney said the union flag suits and the flamboyance of the life of a boxing promoter did help provide an outlet for her "feminine side" but it was not enough.
She said having to hide the urge to dress as a woman and struggling with transsexuality had triggered depression and heavy drinking.
Maloney ran as UKIP's candidate for London Mayor in 2004 Maloney, who managed Lewis from 1989 to 2001, was UKIP candidate for London Mayor in 2004 and came under fire for making homophobic comments.
She attempted to get elected as MP for Barking for the anti-European Union party in 2010.
She said she made the decision to retire last year and that she hoped the boxing world would be understanding.
"I hope society will be open minded," she said.
"I know I could have done my job in boxing as a female."
