Nigel Farage Hit By Egg On Campaign Trail

UKIP's Nigel Farage has been hit by an egg thrown by a protester during a campaign visit to Nottingham.

The party leader was pelted as he climbed out of his car in the city centre, where he had been due to rally support for UKIP's EU election candidates.

He quickly jumped back into his vehicle and left his supporters behind.

The demonstrator, who gave his name as Fred, had earlier been seen holding a sign reading: "Ukip ... sad, scared, old men."

He was detained by police and driven away.

Mr Farage's egging comes after he ruled out running as an MP in the forthcoming Newark by-election.

He said he did not want to be seen as an "opportunist", adding: "I'm not sure electorally it would have worked anyway."
