Writer Irvine Welsh has told Sky News he is really proud of the new film based on his book Filth and said it "might be stronger" than previous hit Trainspotting.
Filth is about a drug-using policeman, played by Scottish actor James McAvoy, who manipulates people to try to secure promotion and win back his wife and daughter.
Welsh said he thinks the movie looks set to be a hit with the ladies and not just because of the leading man.
Irvine Welsh speaking on Sky NewsHe said: "It's supposed to be a very hard-edged film. But women have been responding well to it.
"In some ways, it is a twisted romance about someone who has lost love and is looking for it.
"From a women's point of view it is a bit of a fantasy because that's the state you want to leave a guy in when you pack him in.
"There's no comeback for him. He's ruined, he's in pieces."
Welsh added: "I think it's quite interesting and empowering for women because they have all been out to a greater or lesser extent with a kind of nutty guy like that."
Asked about whether he would back Scottish independence next year, Welsh declined to say but did admit he believed independence was an "inevitable part of what is going on in the UK".
He said: "There's been a big growth in English consciousness over the last 10-20 years and I think it's the same in Scotland and Wales.
"They seem to want to get on with their separate agendas."
The fim, which also stars Joanne Froggatt and Imogen Poots, will be premiered in London on Monday.
